Small group guided pilgrimage in and around Glastonbury, for people who want to go slower and deeper into these holy lands.

Routes include transport for 1-4 people.

To book, please use the form below.

The Path of Holy Thorns

A 4.5 Mile Pilgrimage to Glastonbury’s ‘Biflora’ Hawthorns

Of all Glastonbury’s claims to sacred fame, one mystery quietly thrives without debate or doubt, year after year. This is the botanical miracle of Glastonbury’s Holy Thorn, a hawthorn tree that flowers not only in Spring, but also in the darkest days of Winter.

Legend says the first holy thorn was planted by Jospeh of Arimathea when visiting with his nephew Jesus.

Join a private guided pilgrimage to 17+ Holy Thorns around Glastonbury. Including access to the Abbey, The Tribunal House, and Chalice Well.

Total Time: 4.5 hours

A Journey from Light to Dark

A 3.5 Mile Evening Pilgrimage to Stoney Littleton Long Barrow

This is a pilgrimage from the holy well of St Julian in Wellow to Stoney Littleton long barrow, a Neolithic (5500 year old ) burial chamber on a Somerset hilltop.

We carry holy water to the barrow, where we’ll cirumambulate before offering water as our pilgrimage gift: for threshold clearing, as libation to ancestors, and for our own internal cleansing.

In the last of the day’s light, pilgrims then enter the long barrow to make their own offerings of song, stillness and silence, or their own rituals in the deep dark, as I stand watch at the doorway.

Then we emerge from darkness to darkness, and return to the village via Wellow brook, to take a grounding refreshment in the village public house, before returning to Glastonbury. Total Time inc travel: 4 hours

The Water Dragon of Wells

A 6 mile pilgrimage in search of Well’s vanquished dragon

Many people visit Glastonbury but neglect to visit Wells, a few miles north, the cathedral city of flowing water.

In the 13th Century, Bishop Jocelyn of Wells is reported to have slain a local dragon that terrorised the villages. This pilgrimage seeks the dragon’s echo.

The route leads from the spring in Wells Bishop’s Palace where the dragon is said to have had its underwater lair, to Dinder, whose church celebrates this dragonlore with carvings, to Worminster Hill where the dragon was killed.

Then through Dulcote, where a holy well fountain sprays to the air, and onward through ancient woods to re-emerge in Wells, hopefully to catch Choral Evensong, the free offering of sacred music given each night.

Total Time (inc Evensong): 4.5 hours (a shorter 4.5 mile / 3 hr version is possible)

The Holy Wild Waters of Sulis

A 9 mile pilgrimage to Bath Spa

Bath is a city built around an ancient holy well. Uniquely in this part of Britain, the waters here rise hot due to geothermal magic.

This pilgrimage begins at Avoncliff, from where we walk to the conflucence of Rivers Avon and Frome (with optional wild swim).

Then we progress along River Avon to the Dundas Aquaduct (for another option river dip). From here, past the mysterious pyramid of Claverton, through wild woodlands, to the springs and waters of Bath Spa, where we immerse in the sacred hot waters of Aqua Sulis, all in white robes and her luxurious modern setting.

Total Time: 9 hours (with a short train-ride back to our vehicle transport at the end)
