Itinerary
-
We meet at 9:30am in Boscastle, before rising to Victoria Head to set our intentions and take our hazel staffs.
Then we delve into the dark woodlands in search of the chapel of St Madryn and her holy well.
-
After collecting the waters of Madryn, we emerge from woodlands to the high places, and walk coastal paths along clifftops to St Nectan’s Glen, where we shall immerse in the sacred waterfall.
-
We return to Boscastle by taxi, with he option of a group supper.
-
We meet at 9:30 to walk the Rocky Valley, via ancient carved labyrinths. We descend to the coast at Bossinney for an (optional) swim in the sea, as ablution before reaching the holy places of Tintagel.
-
We walk the cliffs to Tintagel, birthplace of Morgana (and Arthur). We roam the ancient castle and its places of power, before sinking deep into the caves below.
We end our journey offering holy water at the standing stone and fonts in Madryn’s second church on Tintagel headland.
A taxi will return us from the church to our parked cars at Rocky Valley.
Where we Walk
Saturday begins at 9:30am in by Boscastle harbour.
From here we walk along a rushing river into deep woodlands to search for the chapel and holy well of Madryn. We then pass the fairy tree of Boscastle on our way to the coastal clifftop path, which we follow to St Nectan’s Glen.
On Sunday we meet at 9:30 at Rocky Valley, whose labyrinths we follow before walking the cliffs west for Tintagel via the cove of Bosinney. We enter the legendary castle, then descend to the cave within the cave. From here we ascend once more for the clifftop church to offer holy water to the stones.
FAQ
-
Morgan is many things to many people. She was originally a Celtic sea goddess, before Norman writers made her a magical enemy of King Arthur.
-
Ultimately, Morgan le Fay likely has her roots in the far older Celtic Goddess of Madron. So our approach to Morgana will seek the wider spirit of the divine feminine throughout the living landscape, with which we’ll attempt to engage through song, silence, ceremony and offerings.
-
This landscape is rich with Arthurian stories, and many writers say Tintagel was the birthplace of Morgana. But more than this, there are so many diverse landscapes of magical power and divine femininity here - coves and caves, wells and waterfalls - that this landscape seems to embody a living spirit of Morgana rather than just a historic and literary memory.
-
This pilgrimage is being guided by William Parsons, who is male. So both men and women are welcome. We are all children of the great mother.
-
Each day is approx. 8 miles of walking, which is more than most people walk in a day. More than this, the way can be tough, with rocky surfaces and steep inclines. This is not an especially easy pilgrimage. But we will walk slowly, taking many stops to sink into the landscape. Most reasonably fit people should find it manageable. Get in touch if you are concerned!
-
Each pilgrim is free to find their own preferred accommodation. There are many local hotels, bnbs, and campsites. I can offer recommendations when you book. Just avoid Camelot Castle Hotel if you can!
-
The event costs £225 per ticket. This includes: entry tickets to St Nectan’s Glen Waterfalls - and entry tickets to Tintagel castle.
Pilgrims also receive a hazel staff (crucial pilgrim tech).
-
Sadly, dogs cannot join us on this pilgrimage.
Testimonials
“One of the most beautiful things I’ve done” (Sam, pilgrim)
“The richness of it all, from the wildflowers, the trees, the flow of the water, the different energies felt...” (Linda, pilgrim)
“I enjoyed every moment, and have had an unusually peaceful mind since.” (Lisa, pilgrim)
“So magical. A truly special day. So grateful.” (Rupal, pilgrim)
“I always think that when you are having an experience, there is a balance to be had between capturing it, to be a wonderful memory later (plus the beauty!) and actually experiencing it in your body and mind in that moment. I normally err on the side of taking a few not great snaps and trying to inhabit the moment. I don’t think I have ever got the balance quite right yet. It is really wonderful to have your beautiful images to do that for me, so thank you.” (Ros, pilgrim)
